This is a key position reporting directly to the Managing Director, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) compliance across a multi-site operation.
This role is ideal for a hands-on H&S professional with strong working knowledge of UK legislation, ideally gained within an engineering, forklift, or transport environment.

The Role
As Health & Safety Compliance Manager, you will provide professional guidance and practical support across all operational HSE activities, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and best practice throughout the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining HSE systems and plans in line with legal requirements and internal standards.
- Ensuring all risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work are completed, communicated and maintained.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date compliance records, including H&S files, Fire Safety, DSEAR, RIDDOR, COSHH and risk registers.
- Managing site management systems and compliance processes.
- Overseeing day-to-day HSE compliance across office, workshop, paint shop and depot environments.
- Planning and coordinating statutory inspections and site maintenance, including ladders, ramps, paint booths, roller shutters, emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
- Managing environmental compliance and waste management, including waste carrier licences.
- Overseeing health surveillance programmes for engineers and paint shop staff.
- Working closely with the Managing Director to identify and coordinate all health and safety training requirements.
- Delivering Health & Saftey training and guidance to employees and site contractors.
- Maintaining and reviewing company policies and procedures.
- Acting as the main point of contact for contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance and insurance documentation is in place.
- Managing new starter Health & Saftey inductions and maintaining the employee handbook.
- Supporting transport compliance, including oversight of three company HGVs and quarterly DVLA licence checks.
- Managing and renewing accreditations such as Safe Contractor and annual memberships.
- Leading internal audits, inspections and compliance reporting.
Our client is looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:
- A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent (Fire Safety qualification desirable).
- Proven experience in an operational Health, Safety and Environment role.
- Experience working within the engineering, forklift and/or transport industry.
- Strong and up-to-date knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels of the business.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to work independently.
