Senior Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Southampton Area (Hybrid)Employment Type: Full-TimeOverviewWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking building services consultancy in the Southampton/Fareham area. This is a senior, hands-on role leading the design and delivery of innovative and sustainable mechanical building services across commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design solutions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, integrated outcomes from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of building services systems, including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems
- Produce, review, and approve calculations, technical specifications, drawings, and reports
- Coordinate effectively with clients, project teams, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project delivery
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, promoting technical excellence and best practice
- Ensure all designs comply with UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and sustainability standards
- Represent the consultancy in client meetings, design reviews, and workshops
- Contribute to business development activities and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (IMechE, CIBSE, or similar)
- Minimum 5+ years of consultancy experience in mechanical building services design
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, and other relevant design tools
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills
- Proven experience managing complex projects and guiding multidisciplinary design teams
