Teaching Assistant – PRU – Walsall
Are you a resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people who have faced barriers to education? This specialist PRU in Walsall is looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1-2-1 support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students re-engage with learning in a structured and supportive environment.
As a Teaching Assistant in this setting, you will work closely with teaching staff and the pastoral team to support students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. You will play a vital role in helping students to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour, and develop the confidence they need to succeed both academically and socially.

Job Role:
- Providing 1-2-1 support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
- Building strong, positive relationships to help students feel safe and supported.
- Supporting students to self-regulate and develop positive coping strategies.
- Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management.
- Delivering targeted interventions to help students re-engage with learning.
- Managing behaviour using de-escalation strategies and clear boundaries.
- Working closely with the pastoral team to support students’ emotional well-being.
- Recording progress and incidents and feeding back to teaching staff and leaders.
Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours.
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, LSA, or in a similar role.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable students.
- Working in a supportive PRU with a strong pastoral focus.
- Ongoing support from experienced leaders and staff.
